The revision count is the number hiring managers care about
Every board respin costs a fabrication run, an assembly run, and four to eight weeks of schedule. An engineer who reliably reaches validated production in two revisions instead of four is directly cheaper to employ, and hardware managers read resumes looking for exactly that signal. If your respin record is good, state it plainly and say what earned it — simulation before layout, design reviews with the firmware team, pre-compliance scanning before the certification lab.
First-pass compliance is the sharpest version of the same claim. A failed EMC or safety visit costs a retest fee and a redesign cycle, so "passed CISPR 11 on the first visit" is a result any hardware lead can price immediately. Attach the avoided cost where you know it; the number turns a good outcome into a business case.
Show the bench, not just the schematic
"Designed schematics for a motor controller" claims ownership of a drawing. What postings are actually screening for is the full loop: design, build, measure, debug. Bullets that include measurement — efficiency at full load, ripple under transient, thermal margin in a chamber, a field-return failure root-caused to a specific component — prove you validate your own work rather than handing it to someone else to discover the problems.
Bench numbers are also the most defensible quantification an electrical engineer has, because they came off your own instruments and you can narrate exactly how they were taken. When the product itself is confidential, keep the numbers and generalise the product: "a 3 kW industrial motor drive" gives a reader everything they need without naming the customer.
Match the posting's sub-discipline exactly
"Electrical engineer" covers at least four different jobs — power systems, board-level hardware, embedded systems, and controls — and postings filter on the vocabulary of the one they mean. A hardware posting says schematic capture, layout, signal integrity; a power posting says protection coordination, load studies, NEC. Mirror the sub-discipline's own terms where they honestly describe your work, because a keyword screen will not translate between them.
Standards are part of that vocabulary. Product roles filter on IPC layout classes, IEC and UL safety standards for the product category; utility and facilities roles filter on NEC and IEEE — and there a PE license is often a hard requirement rather than a nice-to-have. List the standards you actually designed or tested to, spelled the way postings spell them, and skip the ones you have only read about.

It depends on the sub-discipline. Power, utilities, and facilities roles often require or strongly prefer one because the work gets stamped. Product electronics roles almost never ask. If you are targeting the power side early in your career, list your FE/EIT pass — it is the entry ticket to the PE track.
Enough to prove you can bring up your own board — C for peripheral bring-up, Python for automated bench tests. That is a genuine differentiator. Going further starts to read as a software resume, which works against you unless you are deliberately targeting embedded roles.
Describe the engineering, not the product: layer count, component count, power level, the standards it certified against, and the measured results. "A 6-layer 900-component controller certified to IEC 62368" discloses nothing an employer could object to and tells a hiring manager everything.
For the keyword screen, yes: postings name their tool and the match is literal. The skills transfer in practice, so list the tools you could sit down with tomorrow, put the posting's tool first when you genuinely know it, and never list one you would fail a five-minute demo in.
