Name your CAD and simulation tools exactly — SolidWorks, ANSYS, GD&T to ASME Y14.5 — and tie each to a part that shipped. Lead every bullet with the measured result, not the modelling work behind it.

CAD proficiency is assumed — production is the evidence
Every applicant for a mechanical role lists SolidWorks, and a hiring manager learns nothing from seeing it again. What separates candidates is evidence that the model left the screen: drawings released to suppliers, tooling kicked off, first articles inspected, ECOs closed. A bullet that ends at "designed an enclosure in SolidWorks" stops exactly where the interesting part of the job begins.
The strongest framing is design meeting manufacturing constraint. Draft angles that let the mold release, wall thicknesses that stopped sink marks, a fastener count cut because assembly time was the real cost — these prove you design parts a factory can actually make at price. "Designed a bracket" is a task; "redesigned the bracket so it forms in one press operation instead of three" is a competence.
Use the numbers your discipline already produces
Mechanical engineering generates metrics as a by-product of doing the work: scrap rate, first-pass yield, Cpk on critical dimensions, unit cost, mass, cycle time, hours on test. You rarely need to invent a measurement — you need to go back to the FAI report, the tooling quote, or the test log and pull the number that is already there.
Where a metric genuinely does not exist, quantify scope instead: part count of the assembly, annual production volume, number of suppliers managed, tooling budget. "Owned mechanical release of a 120-part product at 400K units/year" carries real information with no percentage in it. What you must not do is estimate a tidy-looking figure you cannot defend — the follow-up question "how was that measured?" arrives in the first interview.
Standards and licensure — where they belong
Postings for mechanical roles filter on standards vocabulary: ASME Y14.5 for GD&T, ISO 2768 for general tolerances, and the safety or industry standards specific to the product category. If you designed to a standard, name it in the skills block exactly as postings write it — "GD&T" and "ASME Y14.5" are matched as different terms, so include both.
On licensure, be realistic about your target. A PE license matters where drawings get stamped — consulting, HVAC, pressure vessels, anything civil-adjacent — and is largely ignored in product development and manufacturing roles. Early-career, an EIT/FE pass is still worth a line: it signals fundamentals and costs nothing. Either way, put it in the header or skills block, not the final line of page two.
Which template suits a mechanical engineer
Sharp structural styling aimed at engineering roles, with the tighter spacing to hold a dense mix of tooling, standards, and quantified results without spilling onto a third page.
Fair questions.
Only for roles where engineering work gets stamped — consulting, HVAC, pressure equipment, public infrastructure. Product development and manufacturing roles rarely ask for it. If you have an EIT or PE, list it prominently; if you do not, most industry postings will not hold it against you.
Through the artefacts CAD work produces: drawing packages released, assembly sizes, ECOs processed, parts that reached production. Some product companies do ask for a portfolio — a one-page PDF of shipped work that respects your employer's IP answers it better than a folder of renders.
A completed Green or Black Belt, yes — manufacturing postings filter on it, and it pairs a keyword with a credential. "Familiar with lean principles" without a certification or a project behind it is noise; cut it and let a scrap-reduction bullet make the point instead.
With the nearest equivalent: a capstone, Formula SAE, or co-op project written to the same formula — the constraint you designed against, the test you ran, the measured result. "Suspension upright passed 120% load case at 0.9 kg, machined for under $200" beats any list of coursework.
