"AI career coach" covers very different products: a chat that edits your documents, AI generators inside a tracker, a scanner with AI add-ons, and human coaching sold next to software. This guide separates them, with what each does, what it costs as of 3 November 2026, and who it suits. Disclosure: we make Kaizen, one of the tools in this article. We do not earn commission from any tool listed here, and none of them paid to be included. We have not ranked Kaizen first or last; the tools are grouped by who they suit.

The short answer

If you want a conversation that ends with your resume and cover letter changed, Kaizen is built for that. If you want AI inside a job tracker, look at Teal, Huntr or Careerflow. If you want match scoring against postings, Jobscan or Rezi. If you want a human, Careerflow lists paid coaching services, and no AI tool replaces a person who knows your industry. A general-purpose AI assistant can also give career advice for free or cheaply, but it does not keep your documents, tracker and score in one place.

How we compared them

What we did: on 3 November 2026 we read each tool's own pricing page, plus its product pages where a claim needed them, and wrote down plans, prices, free-plan limits and features exactly as published. Kaizen's figures come from our own product code.

What we did not do: we did not run a hands-on test of every competitor for this update, so we do not rate output quality, template design or support, and we do not give scores. Where a line comes from a page we could not read today, we say so or leave it out.

Prices are in the currency each page showed us and change often, and some tools show different prices by country. Check the tool's own page before you pay. If you spot something out of date, tell us and we will correct it.

  • What the AI does: chat, generation, scoring or interview practice, as the tool’s own pages describe it.
  • What it touches: does it change your documents, or only advise?
  • Cost: every plan and billing period on the tool’s own pricing page.
  • Limits: free-plan caps and credit allowances.
  • We did not check whether any tool’s advice is correct. That needs hands-on testing, which we have not done for this update.

Kaizen

Kaizen’s coach is a chat that reads whatever you attach: a resume, a cover letter or a job posting. It asks about your experience and proposes edits as changes you apply or skip, shows the ATS points they add, and each applied change can be undone. Around it sit the builder, a live ATS score, an application tracker, job search (beta) and interview prep (beta). Voice interview practice is coming soon, not available yet.

Free plan: unlimited drafts, 5 of 14 resume templates and 5 of 11 cover letter templates, live ATS score, the application tracker, one résumé PDF, a small monthly AI allowance. Pro raises the AI allowance to enough for up to 125 tailored resume and cover letter pairs a month if it is used only for tailoring. Pro $24.95 a month, $49.95 a quarter or $119.95 a year, excluding VAT.

Trade-offs: no human coaching, no browser extension, and the free allowance is enough to try it on one real application, not to live in. See Kaizen features and pricing.

Pricing on 3 November 2026: Pro is $29 a month; Lifetime is a one-time $149; Enterprise is $99 a month per 200 users.

How to choose

  • Want your documents rewritten through conversation: Kaizen.
  • Want a tracker first, AI second: Teal or Huntr.
  • Want LinkedIn and networking tools plus AI: Careerflow.
  • Want a match score for each listing: Jobscan or Rezi.
  • Want a person: use a human coach. Careerflow lists services; ask for prices and examples first.
  • Want to try free first: every tool here has a free plan. Check the limits above before you rely on it.

AI can draft and score, but it cannot know your target employer. Check every number and claim it adds to your resume, and keep facts it cannot verify out of the document. See the features, the free ATS resume checker and Kaizen vs Teal. The STAR method guide is a good way to give any coach better material.

Questions people ask

It can save time on drafting and tailoring. It does not replace judgement about which jobs to chase. Start on a free plan and pay only when you hit a real limit.
