There is no single best resume builder, because the tools are built for different jobs: a tracker with a builder attached, a design-first editor, a scanner, an open-source project. This guide covers ten, with what each does well, who it suits and what it costs as of 3 November 2026. Disclosure: we make Kaizen, one of the tools in this article. We do not earn commission from any tool listed here, and none of them paid to be included. We have not ranked Kaizen first or last; the tools are grouped by who they suit.

The short answer

Pick by the job you need done. For a free builder with no paywalls, Reactive Resume. To track many applications beside your resume, Teal or Huntr. For a distinctive design, Enhancv or Kickresume. For a match score against a job listing, Jobscan. To pay once, Rezi Lifetime. For a coach that rewrites your documents while you chat, Kaizen. Zety and Resume.io suit a quick, guided build, but both bill every four weeks after a short trial, so cancel in time.

How we compared them

What we did: on 3 November 2026 we read each tool's own pricing page, plus its product pages where a claim needed them, and wrote down plans, prices, free-plan limits and features exactly as published. Kaizen's figures come from our own product code.

What we did not do: we did not run a hands-on test of every competitor for this update, so we do not rate output quality, template design or support, and we do not give scores. Where a line comes from a page we could not read today, we say so or leave it out.

Prices are in the currency each page showed us and change often, and some tools show different prices by country. Check the tool's own page before you pay. If you spot something out of date, tell us and we will correct it.

  • Price: every plan and billing period on the tool’s own pricing page.
  • Free plan: what you get without paying, and whether it ends.
  • Fit: what the tool does well and who it suits, using only what its pages state.
  • Trade-offs: billing traps, limits and missing features.

  • Want to pay nothing and keep it simple: Reactive Resume, or the free plans of Teal, Kickresume or Kaizen.
  • Tracking dozens of applications: Teal or Huntr, then see whether you need the builder’s paid features.

  • Want a score against a specific posting: Jobscan, Rezi, or Kaizen Pro.
  • Want to talk through changes and have them made for you: Kaizen.
